Cristian Santiago discusses with Katie his experience in the two-year acting program at the end of his first year in the acting program. Q: Cristian, what did you think it meant to train as an actor before you started the two-year program at Maggie Flanigan Studio? I thought actor training was going through scenes, reading lines over and over again, and practicing scenes. Q: What do you think it means now that you finished your first year at the studio? I think it means to know how to craft and to personalize every single thing that you're doing and working from your heart and working truthfully rather than just reading the text and putting some implying meaning on it. Now, it's more about really figuring out what your objective is rather than just what it says on the paper. Q: What were you doing before you decided to commit to the two-year program? I decided to commit because I was working in fashion production. That was a lot of behind the scenes like working, producing photo shoots. As it went on, I just realized I don't belong behind the camera anymore. People would tell me that a lot. I would do a lot of acting when I was younger. I had a break in between my last job and then figuring out what I wanted to do next. I was like, "I just got to do it." I had a couple of friends tell me about the school, and I came and did it. I jumped in ready to do all two years because of the success of my friends had told me about and how much they enjoyed it. I slowly figured out as the months went on that I was very into it. It took a lot out of me, so I know that the result has to be worth it. Q: Did you study the Meisner technique before or this is your first time? This is my first time doing Meisner. Q: How is studying at the studio different than what you expected it to be? I expected it to be, for some reason, less personal and I didn't think I would have to dig deeper into myself as I am to be acting. Now, I understand why that is so important to take on other roles or anything. You have to know who you are. That's what I figured out here during the first year.
