Maggie Flanigan Studio Reopening 2021

Charlie talks about the challenges of the pandemic and jumping off the cliff to take a chance. www.maggieflaniganstudio.com/meisner-acting/creative-resi... Creative Resilience and the Pandemic The Maggie Flanigan Studio proudly announces the reopening of the acting studio and in-person acting classes on September 10th, 2021. In this video Charlie Sandlan talks about the challenges and opportunities that have come from the pandemic. So, the last year and a half has been, I think, a test of the world's resiliency. Certainly for the creative community, our community, it has been devastating. It's been really, really difficult. We have been forced to re-imagine what it means to be a performer, what it means to create, what it means to be in a classroom again. Now we're coming out of a really dark period, and I think that right now, all of us and certainly those of us that create for a living, have an opportunity to rebirth ourselves. The time's not right, I want to wait until this pandemic is over. You have dreams and you have passions, things that you want to do with your life. Now is an opportunity to check in with yourself, to intervene with the excuses that have been keeping you from really rolling the dice on yourself. That's what I'm talking about. Taking a risk. You know what? I want to do this with my life. I've been wanting to do it for a long time and maybe I've been sitting on the sidelines doing a crappy job, something I don't like. The opportunity is now. My wish for all of us, as we enter into this fall, as we jump off the cliff and take a chance, don't let it get wasted. Find the courage to work through whatever scares you, because I'll tell you I'm scared. I'm scared to death, but you can't have courage without being scared. It's okay to be terrified of taking a chance, of putting yourself on the line. Don't let it go to waste. 2021 Two Year Acting Program To learn more about the re-opening of Maggie Flanigan studio visit the studio website. movement classes for actors stage presence

Brianna Packen teaches movement classes for actors at the Maggie Flanigan Studio in New York. In this video Briana discusses how tension in the body affects an actor’s stage presence. www.maggieflaniganstudio.com/movement-class/movement-clas... Young actors often times think of tension as intensity. So if something is intense they feel like they respond to it with tension in their body. It is just something that starts to happen. When in fact what we need to do is to begin to have sense of ease through the more intense moments or larger experiences on stage. So if you never look at a sense of comfort in the discomfort then you are not going to find that magical thing that we call stage presence for being so grounded. So these actors come in and they feel like they need to apologize for in their body or that it gets really really intense. The shoulders come up to the ears, when a big moment happens and they don't know how to deal with it. So then they get overwhelmed by the idea that one could experience without the other and think that the more interesting or more exciting the scene is the more tension it provides. Which is not the case. You need to first look at when that happens to you and we do that in the level one of the movement work. You need to identify what happens in your body. If you have a pattern of a certain kind of tension, be it the shoulders, jutting your head forward holding your breath. It is something that is distracting from the actual moment. So the audience member can experience what is really going on and when you begin to solve those through first becoming aware of it and giving your self permission to accept that it is there and acknowledge it. Once you solve that then you can give the audience member or who ever is watching casting director (right?) or hopefully someone giving you a job a sense of an experience themselves and that ease is what is going to ultimately give you the biggest sense of stage presence for someone that they want to watch.
