In this video Louisa discusses why actors need to learn script analysis. Many young actors don't know how to read plays. That sounds weird because everybody knows how to read. But actors read in a very specific way because they are looking for clues to building their character and to creating a vivid, imaginative, interesting behavior on stage. So you really have to be able to take a script apart and look for the invitations, the little love notes, the little gifts that the author gives you that form the jumping off point for your actor's creative work. Everything that you do as an actor, all the homework that you do in preparation for the first day of rehearsal or the first day of the film shoot, ultimately amounts to creating interesting behavior. But how do you read an script and look for the clues that allow you to create as an actor? That is what you learn in script analysis. You learn an intelligent, careful reading of the play or of the film script. You lean how analyze story so that you can have an intelligent conversation with the director. You learn how to find all the clues about your character that the author gives you which ultimately allow you to create an interesting performance.
